A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Rachel Black holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Vocal Performance from Vanderbilt University and The University of Kentucky, respectively. She has performed with the Northern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, The Huntsville Youth Orchestra and toured internationally with the American Spiritual Ensemble. Operatic roles include Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Meg Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Arnalta in L’Incoronazione di Poppea, and Emma Jones in Street Scene. Some of her musical theatre roles include Domina in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Carlotta in Yeston’s Phantom, Ms. Darbus in High School Musical, Nettie in Carousel, Martha in White Christmas, Mayor Matilda in All Shook Up, Eulalie Shinn in The Music Man, and Paulette in Legally Blonde.

She has taught on the musical theatre faculty at The University of Memphis, The University of Kentucky, Emory & Henry College, and was a guest artist at the University of Arkansas, Ft. Smith. She has served as director, music director, or vocal coach for departmental productions of The Wedding Singer, Next to NormalOklahoma!, [title of show], Legally Blonde, Cabaret, Little Women, Once On This Island, and State Fair. Rachel’s students are performing at regional theaters, on cruise ships, and at theme parks across the country. She also continues to perform as her schedule permits. She currently lives in New York City with her dog Biscuit.
